About G.U.C.C.

Glasgow University's Curling Club has a history going back more than forty years. Curling was first affiliated with the University as a sports club in 1977, with the Glasgow team of Ken Horton, Willie Jamieson, Keith Douglas and Richard Harding representing Scotland at the World Curling Championships that year. The Glasgow team also went on to win the 1977-78 Scottish Universities' League and the 1978 British Universities Championships (as the Open was then called).

Since then a lot has changed regarding what is now the Scottish Universities' Open, a lot has changed in the sport and a lot, I dare say, has changed in the Glasgow University club.

However, the spirit of the game and the Glasgow University Curling Club have remained constant. Curling is a social game and that is definitely a value that the club strives to promote; we're a tightly knit bunch of people from all over the world brought together by our love of the game.

We meet most Wednesday afternoons for training at Braehead Curling Rink between 2.20 and 4.20 before heading into town for drinks and free food. Coaching is available for those who need or want it from many of the qualified coaches from within our ranks. With national, international and Olympic medalists in our club's history, you can rest assured that you are in capable hands.

We also participate in competitions such as the SSS Scottish Universities' League and the SSS Scottish Universities' Open.

To join you must first have paid your GUSA membership (gym membership). After that simply come along to a training session or speak to a member of the committee. The current membership fee is £20 for the year and this covers all your ice costs for the season. We also offer individual sessions at £3 a session if you are not a GUCC member

Whether you're a world class curler or a complete beginner, everyone's welcome to come along and chuck some stones with us!

There may also be some SUCC members in this one...
